Everyone tries tremendously hard but there is nothing they can do to save this weak film. The Defiant – A captivating tale of 2 escaped convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from the penitentiary in the South. Exceptional performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E.
