The Buzz of A New Hollywood Movie Production Can Make Or Break Box Office Ticket Sales
Hollywood spends a lot of money to make a blockbuster movie hit. The costs to bring in top performers combined with special cinematic effects teams makes producing top rated movies extremely expensive. It is a gamble but it is a risk that Hollywood is willing to take.
If a movie really takes off at the box office, producers, directors and movie cast will more than make up the cost of producing a movie hit. Some big movies have generated well over 100 million dollars in sales. When a film flops that is a different story.
The key to big ticket sales is for producers and directors is to create a film that spawns a lot of media attention before the movie is released. This media buzz creates anticipation for movie goers and causes a ticket sell-out on opening day. This is how they can tell if a movie is going to be a smash hit. Once a movie is released, it is then statistically trended to see how well it is going to perform over time.
Since the success or failure of a movie is usually determined in first week of its premiere release, many Hollywood studios often have advanced screenings of movies as an attempt to pump up the ticket sales before the movie is released to the general public. This creates buzz advertising and free press as media outlets around the world feature spotlights of the movie.
Given the history of the movie industry during the past 50 years, Hollywood has figured out what makes a movie a hit. They know what Americans and people around the world want to see. In some cases, it does not take 50 million dollar budget to create a hit move. Big sellers have been produced as a result of creating low budget horror flicks such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Night of the Living Dead.
Hollywood not only generates millions of dollars in tickets sales as new releases hit the theaters, but they also get a percentage of sales from DVD rentals and purchases too. Older classics are still favored by many. Some people buy entire collections and series of movies and television shows such as the popular show 24.
In the past movies that were once very popular such as King Kong and Godzilla have be reproduced in sequels with better special effects and plots to lure fans to the big screen. Throughout the years this has paid off big for Hollywood. Jurassic Park is one such classic that entertained movie goes with two sequels. It is one of my favorites.
During the past ten years Hollywood has created a new kind of fictional movie taken from the pages of Marvel Comic books. Batman, Superman, and Cat Woman are all examples of how special effects have made it possible to bring anything to life on the big screen. If it can be imagined, then they will find a way to bring it to life in a new and entertaining way.
