4 famous guitars

So we all think all certain guitars when we hear the word – a guitar that just to us, symbolises what our favourite players uses to achieve that sound and look damn cool while doing it. These are the guitars that have turned mere men into rock gods.

The Fender Strat. When it was made back in 1954, no-one, least of all its creator Leo Fender, had no idea how iconic this guitar was about to become. There are thousands of coopies coming in all colours, but you know a real Strat just by its tone. Considered a blues and rock guitar -having been in the hands of many of these players, who find it hard to go back to other guitars afterwards. Hendrix, Clapton, all of Iron Maiden, Blackmore, Kosoff Buddy Holly and hundreds of other players. The legendary reputation of the Stratocaster proceeds it, ensuring it remains an icon for years to come.

The Fender Telecaster. Although it has its share of rock players, due to its twangy sound the telecaster has something of a ‘country’ guitar reputation. Jim Root of Iowain metallers Slipknot and John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) are surprising Telecaster players. Originally known as the Broadcaster, the Telecatser was created in 1949. A law suit saw Fender back pedal and change the name to Telecaster, and the rest is history. Famous players include Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Andy Summers of the Police and Joe Strummer of the Clash, which shows just how versitile the guitar is.

The Gibson Les Paul. Created by Gibson with Les Paul, the guitar was created in 1952. Originally the Les Paul had single coil pickups, which were changed in ’57 for the humbucker pickups that the Les Paul is famous for today. Most guitar giants have placed thier hands on a Les Paul at some stage. Famous Les Paul players are Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society and Slash of Velvet Revolver.

Gibson SG. The SG was created in 1961 to be a redesign of the Les Paul -except that Les Paul himself didnt like the guitar. Renamed ‘sg’, which stands for solid guitar, it is much lighter than the Les Paul guitar. players who made the SG famous are Tony Iommi and Angus Young, both of whom have signature models.
